The daughter of the villainous Cluemaster, Stephanie Brown is probably better known for her two other heroic identities, the Spoiler and Batgirl, than for her brief stint as Robin. Stephanie proved to be popular, however, leading writer Chuck Dixon to use her in his ongoing Robin series.
Eventually, she began dating Tim Drake and for a short while replaced him as Robin before Batman fired her due to her lack of experience. While this may have seemed harsh, it was probably necessary. Dick and Jason had acrobatic and combat skills and Tim was put through rigorous training, but Stephanie had none of those and often made mistakes.
While this lack of finesse was part of her appeal, it proved costly when she was tortured and seemingly killed by the villain Black Mask.
However, her death was later revealed to have been faked by Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Calling Damian something of a problem child is a lot like saying Batman prefers dressing in blacks. Yet, all of the above mentioned characters are still extremely active in DC comic books, both making regular appearances in the Batman series of books and boasting their own solo or team-up comics.
What does it mean? Simply that at 75 years, the eternally youthful Boy Wonder has a lot more life left in him. When the hired assassin known as Bane came to Gotham in order to kill Batman, Robin was sent on a mission to follow Bane's activities closely, but he ended up captured by Bane and taken to a ship owned by Rupert Thorne. Robin was placed in a death trap, but Batman saved him and while the Dark Knight confronted Bane, Robin struggled with Candice , Thorne's assistant.
A shirtless Robin couldn't stop Candice during their fight in the water and she got away. However, Batman defeated Bane and with Robin's information from his mission, Candice was exposed as a traitor to her boss. Afterwards, Robin assisted Batman in stopping the criminal spree of the misunderstood actress best known as Baby Doll. Robin allowed himself to be kidnapped by Baby Doll in order to learn the location of her hideout and rescue her other hostages.
In some of his last activities as Robin, the Teen Wonder assisted Batman in capturing Two-Face, [19] rescuing Veronica Vreeland from Harley Quinn , [20] stopping Joker from getting revenge against local comedians. After assisting Batman in tracking down Mister Freeze and stopping Grant Walker 's mad plans, [23] Batman left the city and Robin was tasked with solving the theft of the Jade Cat Statue by himself. Although he suspected Catwoman was responsible for the crime, Batgirl informed Robin that someone else was responsible.
After an investigation, Robin learned that Roland Daggett was behind the theft and he assisted Batgirl and Catwoman in capturing the crook. Afterwards, Catwoman escaped and Batgirl prevented Robin from chasing her. A short time later, Dick Grayson started dating Barbara Gordon and the two of them began to get serious. Around this time, Barbara was kidnapped by Mister Freeze, who returned to Gotham with the sloe purpose of finding a person to sacrifice in order to save his wife.
Dick tried his best to save Barbara, but he was unable to prevent the kidnapping. Later as Robin, he joined Batman in the investigation and eventually located Freeze's hideout, where they rescued Barbara and Nora from Freeze's burning hideout. Unfortunately, Freeze couldn't be saved and he was presumed dead. Due to being raised as a circus acrobat, Dick was capable of unbelievable exploits of nimbleness and athletic skills. The cape and the cowl are usually black because it matches the darkness of the night.
Is Batman intentionally having his sidekick act as a diversion? That strategy seems awfully risky for the Boy Wonder. For most people, the grieving process is fairly straightforward. But several years passed and the costume remained exactly where it is. At first, Red Hood fought his former mentor. Soon, the two would work together and, eventually, Jason was accepted into the Bat Family. In recent years, Jason and Bruce have found themselves at odds again due to ideological clashes.
Overall, their dynamic is quite complicated. The Dark Knight always talks about the risks and dangers associated with his war on crime. Whoever serves as Robin is taking on these risks and, sometimes, the consequences can be lethal. Unfortunately, Bruce does not make this avoidance a reality. He presses a willing Damian into duty as another Robin and, inevitably, the boy pays the same price that Jason Todd once did.
Unable to cope with the loss, Batman brings his son back to life, something that a true hero would probably never do. As a freelance journalist with a writing major from Ithaca College, Colin has turned his lifelong enthusiasm for writing into a career.
He has experience covering comic books and professional wrestling, two subjects that he has been passionate about since childhood. When he's not working, Colin can be found drinking too much coffee while he's reading a Stephen King novel or binging comics. By Colin Tessier Published Dec 10, In an effort to keep up the illusion of Batman, Bruce had Tim adopt the Batman identity while he is forced to be Robin.
He was adopted by Bruce after his father died in an accident. He will pick up Robin's mask to help Batman defeat Grantland Stark, a thief who stole millions of dollars in oil, but will die sacrificing himself for Batman. He eventually became a member of the Justice Society of America. During his later years, he adopted a more Batman-like look for a time, and by the s had become a lawyer and the ambassador to South Africa. Although in semi-retirement, he was called back to active duty when he rejoined the Justice Society during the period when Power Girl and Star-Spangled Kid also assisted them.
He died during the miniseries Crisis on Infinite Earths , in which the DC Multiverse was reduced to one universe, and this version of Grayson, as well as the Earth-Two Batman, were deemed never to have existed. The relationship between him and Batman was poor, to the point of even abusive in places.
Grayson was fired by Batman and replaced with Jason Todd. Much like the Prime-Earth, Jason Todd served as his replacement and was killed in action during an encounter with the Joker. His death haunts Batman and was one of the factors for leaving his crusade.
Initially patrolling the streets independently, she officially joins his crusade after saving him from the Mutant Leader.
